Perfect for players ages 15 and over and who either:
1. have no published US Chess rating or
2. have a provisional (25 official tournament games or less) rating of under 1250 or
3. have a published US Chess rating of under 800.
Format, Round Times, Entry Fee, Prizes
- Beginners means new to tournament chess, not necessarily new to chess.
- Swiss Tournament format means no eliminations; you play all 5 rounds each day you play.
- US Chess Rated - after the tournament you will obtain an official US Chess rating.
- Membership in the U.S. Chess Federation is required of all players. Players will not be allowed to complete the tournament without a valid membership.
- Round Times: 11am, 1:30pm, 3pm, 4:30pm, 6pm. Please let us know if you cannot make a game (or two) and we will give you a half point byes for that/those game(s).
- Time control: G/30; increment 5 for each player per game. This means each player has 30 minutes to complete their moves for each game. However, in addition to these 30 minutes, each move you make you receive an extra 5 seconds. Chess notation is required for both players.
- Prizes: (Based on total # of players in that day's tournament):
(6-10 Players): 1st Place: $100 2nd Place: $50
(11-16 Players): 1st Place: $125 2nd Place: $75 3rd Place: $50
(17-24 Players): 1st Place: $150 2nd Place: $100 3rd Place: $75 4th Place: $50.
- Entry Fees:
1 Tournament: $45 by August 31, $60 from September 1 - December 15, $75 on December 16 or after. 2 Tournaments: $80 by August 31, $110 from September 1 - December 15, $140 on December 16 or after. 3 Tournaments: $105 by August 31, $135 from September 1 - December 15, $195 on December 16 or after.
